Christy Joyce and Chris Mullally got Ireland off to a winning start at the AIBA World Junior Championships in Yerevan, Armenia today.
Joyce dominated home favourite Arayik Harutyunyan of Armenia en route to a 7-5 win and will now face Russian featherweight Dmitry Kulakov on Tuesday.
Mullally will also be in action Tuesday versus Ihsan Erdogan of Turkey - despite being felled by Georgian light welter Ciga Gignuri in the second round today.
However, the Ryston clubman, who was 5-4 up at that stage, got back off the floor to blitz Gignuri in the third frame, winning out 13-6.
Cork flyweight Roy O'Carroll will be the only Irish boxer in action tomorrow, versus Cuba's Carrazana Ramirez.
